UL-certified recycled ABS polymer for electronics and vehicles

MBA Polymers UK has launched a recycled ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) feedstock for injection moulding in electronics, automotive and consumer industries.

MBA Polymers Post Consumer recycled ABS

‘ABS 4125 UL’ is UL certified and contains ≥95% post-consumer recycled content, derived from the waste electronics sector. It is already being exported to the USA and Hong Kong.

“UL accreditation verifies the quality, safety and sustainability of recycled plastics, so that manufacturers and end users feel confident in the performance and credibility of the material,” according to MBA. “By 2030, the company’s target is to deliver 100,000 tonnes of recycled plastics content to manufacturers in a range of markets and industries, including high-performance polymers such as ABS.”

Mechanically (at 23°C), flexural modulus is 2,200MPa, tensile stress 40MPa at yield and notched Izod impact strength is 14kJ/m2.

For injection moulding, 240°C is recommended for the melt and 65°C for the mould, and 220°C is recommended for extrusion – although there is room for maneuver around all of these temperatures.

“We do not recommend our materials for toys or for applications that involve food contact or human oral contact, or for medical applications,” said the company.
