LETHBRIDGE, AB – If you are driving along the highways of Alberta this weekend, watch out for volunteers cleaning the roads.

On Saturday, May 4, 2024, volunteer groups will be clearing provincial highways of trash as part of an annual cleanup. Helpers in orange safety vests will participate between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Drivers are reminded to slow down, obey any signage, watch for pedestrians and use caution when passing cleanup crews.

“On May 4th, join us in keeping Alberta’s highways clean and safe for everyone. Together, we can make a difference in our communities,” says Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors Devin Dreeshen.

“I want to thank all the volunteers for participating in this year’s annual highway cleanup.”

Groups participating include 4-H clubs, Scouts, Girl Guides, schools, church organizations, Rotary clubs, sports teams and other nonprofits.

The province notes that in some regions with wildfire activity or those impacted by poor weather, the cleanup will be moved to May 11th or delayed until later in the month.
