New Fargo restaurant offers up combo of African, southern U.S. tastes

Juicy House of Ribs and SoulFood is "bringing southern food to the North!"

FARGO — Take the flavors of Africa, combine them with the flavors of the southern United States, and you have Juicy House of Ribs and SoulFood.

“We got the best ribs in the city,” co-owner Jallah "A.J." Sorsor said Wednesday, March 19, during a break before the supper hour. “We’re bringing southern food to the North!”

Sorsor and his wife, Chontae, quietly opened the restaurant at 1000 45th St. S., on March 1.

Beef and pork ribs lead the entrees menu, with several preparations, including traditional barbecue, peanut butter ribs, or southern fried.

"Whatever type of flavor, we can make it for you,” Sorsor said. “You can freestyle!”

Other entrees include salmon, chicken, and shrimp dishes, and Liberian dry rice or jollof rice. Entrees run from $16.99 to $25.99

Appetizers run from $7 to $12. They include roasted meat sticks, fried or grilled shrimp, barbecued wings or grilled pepper wings, catfish nuggets, and fried plantain.

Side dishes run from $3.75 to $5. They include mac and cheese, fries, candied yams, baked beans and collard greens.

Scott Mulbah stopped at the restaurant Wednesday to pick up something to eat. He’s made Juicy House a regular stop, he said.

"It’s great, especially the ribs,” Mulbah said.

Sorsor lived in the West African country of Liberia before immigrating to the U.S., first living in Dallas and Minneapolis, before moving to the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Sorsor said he gained experience in the food service industry by working with a food truck in Fargo.

He said the family-owned and operated Juicy House of Ribs and SoulFood is about introducing people to the foods that he and his family love.

“I love cooking. I love to see people eat,” Sorsor said.

Customers can order delivery through DoorDash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats, Sorsor said.

The restaurant has a drive-through window, however, it will not be used until the eatery fully staffed, he said.

Sorsor said he wants the restaurant to be family-oriented.

“The vibe is good, the music is good,” Sorsor said.
