Two South Dakota school districts to receive USDA food service grants
PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Two school districts in South Dakota have received funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service to support their food service programs.
The Woonsocket School District will be receiving $25,000, and the Aberdeen School District will get $8,832.44 in National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance grants to help purchase food service equipment.
The grant program’s goal is to help schools serve healthier meals, improve food safety, and support the School Breakfast Program.
“A well-rounded school meal program can be a vital contributor to a school’s success. These grants will help the Aberdeen and Woonsocket school districts make kitchen upgrades that ultimately benefit students and staff,” said George Seamon, interim director of the Department of Education’s Child and Adult Nutrition Services.
The money comes from the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, which allocated $10 million to organizations participating in the National School Lunch Program.
