A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday slammed the Taiwan authorities led by Lai Ching-te for depriving Taiwan people of their fundamental rights and freedom.
Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to two people from the Taiwan region being investigated for posting statements like "I am Chinese" and "I love China" on social media platforms.
Chen said this is yet another one of Lai's evil acts engaging in "green terror" and creating a "chilling effect."
The Taiwan authorities led by Lai have frequently threatened, intimidated and retaliated in an attempt to restrict the freedom of thought and speech of Taiwan compatriots, which allows the world to see the hypocrisy of the so-called democracy it touts, Chen said.
