'I need minutes' - Manchester United defender sends honest message to Ruben Amorim

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof admitted he "needs minutes" after storing 90 under his belt for Sweden against Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening.

Lindelof was recalled to the starting XI and captained his country as they made light work of Michael O'Neill's side, winning 5-1 in Stockholm. The United centre-back had been forced to take up a watching brief at the weekend, watching his teammates from the bench as they were beaten 1-0 by Luxembourg.

The 30-year-old, who is increasingly likely to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of this season, has found opportunities and minutes hard to come by this season, making just 14 appearances for United across all competitions.

However, he has completed 90 minutes in each of United's last two Premier League matches, starting their 1-1 draw with Arsenal and 3-0 victory over Leicester City earlier this month. They marked his first league starts of the season.

Having not played an awful lot of football this season, Lindelof was glad to be back in the heart of Sweden's defence, insisting "it felt good" to have played another full game.

Lindelof said: "It's been a while. It felt good. It's nice to play 90 minutes. I need minutes.

"We play with very high intensity in the national team, so it's fun to hold for 90 minutes. It's tough and a demanding way to play football.

"But we have to do that, too. It still felt like we solved it well, but it's a little different sometimes to be so high up."

Lindelof, who has admitted he wants to continue playing at the "highest level" in the event of him leaving Old Trafford, had not started a game for Sweden since a 2-1 win over Slovakia on November 16.
