(KNOX) – The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) will host a public webinar on April 8, 2025, at 4 p.m. to provide residents with valuable information about the upcoming new Lead and Copper Rule and its impact on communities across the state.

The Lead and Copper Rule aims to protect public health by reducing exposure to lead and copper in drinking water. During the webinar, NDDEQ Environmental Scientist Sandi Washek will outline the objectives of the rule and discuss important topics such as the risks associated with lead, the requirements for identifying and replacing lead and copper service lines, and how the state is working to ensure safer drinking water for all residents.

The webinar will cover the following key points:

What lead is and how it impacts human health
The objectives of the Lead and Copper Rule
An overview of the service line inventory process
Understanding what a water service line is
How to identify the materials used in water service lines
How to determine if “unknown” materials are present on the private end of the service line
Where to find additional resources and information
Residents are encouraged to participate and learn more about how this rule will affect them, their families, and their communities. There will also be a Q&A session following the presentation for attendees to ask questions.
