In a triumph for progressive Indian cuisine, Gaggan, the celebrated Bangkok-based restaurant helmed by Gaggan Anand, has been crowned the best restaurant at the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 awards.
The announcement was made at a prestigious ceremony in Seoul, South Korea, marking Gaggan’s fifth time at the top of the list following its first win in 2015, with consecutive wins lasting till 2018.
For Anand, who was born in Kolkata, this victory is proof of his relentless pursuit of innovation. Posting about the win on Instagram, the chef wrote:

The rankings, considered one of the most influential in the culinary world, are determined by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy—a panel of over 350 esteemed chefs, restaurateurs, food critics, and industry experts from across the continent.
Gaggan’s unique approach to fine dining
What sets Gaggan apart is its playful yet sophisticated take on Indian cuisine, infused with French, Thai, and Japanese influences. The restaurant’s menu is an immersive experience, challenging diners with unconventional elements—courses represented by emojis, dishes eaten by hand, and even a moment that encourages guests to lick their plates.
The restaurant’s design reflects this spirit of creativity and rebellion. The dining space is divided into two sections:
- G’s Spot, an intimate chef’s table seating just 14 guests, ensuring a highly exclusive and personal experience.
- Arena G, a more traditional dining area arranged around an open kitchen, where diners can witness the culinary magic unfold.
The ambiance is bold and vibrant, with neon lights, blue chairs, and industrial concrete columns adding to its rebellious charm.
