COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - On Friday evening, Colorado lawmakers passed a controversial gun bill. Senate Bill 003 is now headed to the Governor Jared Polis’s desk to be signed into law. Senators voted 19 to 15 to approve the bill’s amended version.

The senate bill has gained both support and resentment from Coloradans since it was first introduced in January.

The bill would require people who are wanting to purchase specific firearms, to apply for a permit through their local sheriff’s office. If approved for that, the person would then have to take courses through Colorado Parks and Wildlife before being able to purchase specific gun.

Colorado Senate Democrats released this statement:

11 News is working to get a response from Colorado Senate Republicans.

Earlier in the month, House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese, R-District 14, told 11 News they were strongly against it and that the funding portion of the bill was not clear.

“This bill is not ready for prime time. It needs more stakeholder process and let’s have some statewide conversations and if a bill is going to pass, it should be in the right form... They were different funds that would be used, and even today (Friday) on the house floor, there were changes to the funding structure,” said Representative Rose Pugliese of House District 14.
