With the first round of MPL Philippines Season 15 concluding, Aurora Gaming remains undefeated after a 2-1 win for the classics against Team Liquid PH and a sweep on Team Falcons and Twisted Minds.
On the back of their wins, their Roam and team captain Renejay “Renejay” Barcarse seems to be at the center of it all, with his clutch mechanical prowess and brain for the game. Earning five game MVPs on four different heroes, he’s currently the front-runner on the MVP leaderboard.
But despite their flawless record, he believes there’s still so much to work on before they can sit on the throne of the “Kings of the Philippines”.
“Hindi ko alam eh, may mga times talaga na ang ganda ng laro namin, may mga times na medyo pumapangit. Kanina, medyo sakto lang yung laro namin para sa akin. Sadyang naging maganda lang yung game 3 kasi nakakuha kami ng momentum. So tingin ko marami pa din kaming kailangan i-adjust and improve talaga kahit panalo kami ngayong series (vs TLPH) kasi yung Game 2 halos medyo na-comeback lang din namin sila kasi nagka-mali sila.”, Renejay on handing TLPH first loss.
“Masaya, pero may kulang pa talaga e, talagang hindi rin naging malinis yung laro namin kanina. Ang dami pa rin namin kailangan matutunan.”, he added.
In an interview before Aurora Gaming and Team Liquid Philippines anticipated Week 4 match, Manila Standard Sports sat down with Karltzy, and he mentioned Renejay back then as his personal pick for this season’s MVP.
When Renejay was asked about his thoughts on the interview, his face lit up.
“Nakakatuwa kasi si Kyletzy isa sa mga idol ko nung NXP days and HFE. Siya yung young GOAT talaga. Isa siya sa pinakamatagal na sa scene tapos nandito pa din siya, tapos ang ganda pa din ng performance niya, nasa taas pa rin siya. Never ko siyang nakita bumaba sa mga top 6, lagi siyang nasa top 4 lang.”
He expressed his gratitude to him as well. “Thank you at isang karangalan sa akin yun kasi, GOAT ka (Karltzy). Nice game kanina, ang ganda ng laban. Sobrang nag-enjoy ako kanina, ang sarap nung ganung laban na hyped, (at) maganda.”
Estes homage
With his Estes pick in Game 3, a lot of fans were ecstatic to see the champion getting picked after a year. Estes is one of the most iconic heroes in ML: BB pro play, as it was pioneered by former M3 Champion and Renejay’s former teammate in Blacklist International, Jonmar “OhMyV33NUS” Villaluna.
Aside from the team and their fans, Renejay also dedicated their series win to his former teammate OhMyV33NUS.
“Thank you kasi dahil sayo natutunan naming gumamit ng Estes, dahil dun nanalo kami against sa TLPH. Tapos eto pa yung isa sa pinakamahalagang laban namin, kasi undefeated (din) sila tapos Estes pa pang-talo sa kanila.”
