There’s no better way to enjoy spring than to be outdoors soaking up the fresh air and sunlight. Oldham County celebrates this season of new beginnings with 40+ amazing events in April. You’ll find a progressive tea with a purpose, a Farmer’s Market packed with all kinds of goodies, entertaining theatrical performances, programs to brush up on your history, plant sales for gardeners, ways to experience the unique Kentucky Garden Trail at local nature hotspots around the county and much more.
Take a botanical journey along the Kentucky Garden Trail
Oldham County has two spots on the Kentucky Garden Trail – Yew Dell Botanical Gardens and Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve. Both attractions offer countless events all year long, so be sure to plan an excursion along the trail around such April events as Saturday Plant Walks 2025: Themed Plant Walks With Horticulture Staff. Level up your gardening skill or just enjoy a guided walk with Yew Dell’s awesome staff every Saturday in April from 1 – 2 p.m. Walks included with admission price.
What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than sipping a mimosa, enjoying a few snacks and arranging flowers? Join Yew Dell cut flower wizard, Jill Tinius, who will share pro tips on selecting, prepping and arranging. She will guide participants through crafting their own arrangement to take home in Blooms & Bubbly: Flower Arranging with a Twist on April 13 from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Cost is $60-$70 per person and includes all supplies.
Introducing something new – Fabulous Fridays and Spring Plant Sale Preview on April 25 from 4 - 7 p.m. Kick off the weekend by meeting friends amidst the stunning setting at Yew Dell on the last Friday of each month. Enjoy a delightful selection of wines, seasonally-themed cocktails and mocktails, along with garden-fresh creations from our own Chef Mike Ross. This edition of Fabulous Fridays coincides with Yew Dell’s Spring Plant Sale the following day, April 26 from 10 a.m. – 4p.m. Both events are free with admission.
Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve board member and garden volunteer, Dr. John Hubbard, will share his love of oak trees and how they benefit wildlife and pollinators in The Nature of Oaks on April 12 from 10 a.m. to noon. Visitors will discover how to identify oaks through their leaves bark, and acorns. Donation suggested at $15 per person or $10 for members. Children six and younger are free.
Artistic endeavors in Oldham
The Arts Association of Oldham County is once again hosting its popular 16th annual Animal Attraction Art Show through April 19 at Gallery 104 in La Grange. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday. Also visit the gallery for the Art for All Students Artwork Exhibit. Catch this kaleidoscope of artistic talent showcased in a creative exhibit which runs April 22– May 3 with an opening reception on April 24. Admission is free to the gallery.
There’s real magic in that Tower by the Thames! Find out just how much in this play performed at the Little Colonel Playhouse on April 4-5 and 10-12 from 7:30 – 10 p.m, and April 6 and 13 from 2 – 5 p.m. You’ll meet American Egyptologist Reggie Wilson and his spunky, newly appointed London Museum curator daughter, Beth, as they decide to join forces with a famous ancient Roman playwright, newly arrived via the magic of the Tower. The outlandish characters and screwball chases that develop, a blossoming love interest, and an offbeat but earnest understanding of what it really means to be free, make Tower by the Thames a mysteriously musical, mighty and magical evening. Suitable for all ages. Tickets are $19 for adults, seniors and students are $17.
The Monthly Bluegrass Jam at Oldham Gardens welcomes all artists and acoustic instruments on April 6 from 1 – 4 p.m. Whether you're a seasoned musician or just starting out, this is a fantastic opportunity to share your love of bluegrass and meet fellow musicians. Admission is free but there is a cost for food and drinks.
Join Ashbourne Farms as they kick off the 2025 Showbarn Session series with Showbarn Sessions - An Intimate Evening with Steve Earle - Solo & Acoustic on April 11 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. This exclusive Showbarn Session offers a one-of-a-kind blend of live music, culinary delights and cocktails, creating the perfect atmosphere for our Ashbourne Farms community to enjoy. Cost is $200 per person.
Join staff at the Oldham County Schools Arts Center for a fun-filled Ceramics: Easter Workshop on April 19 from 10 a.m. – noon. Each participant receives a pound of clay to make unique handmade gifts and creations will be glazed during the workshop. Children must be accompanied by an adult with ages 5 and up welcome. Cost is $20 per person.
Spend the evening at the Millstone Amphitheater for Shakespeare in the Park at the Maples Park on April 25 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Be inspired by this free performance of Macbeth by Kentucky Shakespeare. Bring your own chairs or blanket. Food trucks available.
Acts Up! will be presented on April 25 (7:30 – 10 p.m.), April 26 (2 – 5 p.m. and 7:30 – 10 p.m.) and on April 27 (2 – 5 p.m.) at the Little Colonel Playhouse in Pewee Valley. Open Play Cafe at the Maples Park on April 8 from 9:30 - 11 a.m. is sponsored by the Oldham County Public Library and features dramatic play for you and your little one, ages 3 and up. Admission is free.
Budding artists can also visit Gallery 104, ran by Arts Association of Oldham County, to enjoy a story and art activity every Tuesday in April from 11:15 – noon. Art Starts is a free program for toddlers.
Meet the Louisville Princesses when they visit the John W. Black Community Center on April 12 from 10 a.m. – noon. Lots of fun - crafts, meet and greets, snacks - and everyone leaves feeling just a little more royal! Cost is $10 per person. All tickets are sold in advance before the event.
Get your Easter basket ready and head out to The Maples Park for the 4th annual free Easter Egg Hunt on April 19 from noon – 3 p.m. Sponsored by Crestwood United Methodist Church, two egg hunt times are offered at noon and 1:30 p.m. Each has separate age group areas (toddlers to 5th grade).
Drop by Sauerbeck Family Drive-In on April 19 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. for Touch a Truck – Countdown to Kindergarten. You’ll see fire trucks, bucket trucks, school buses, tow trucks and more. Hands-On activities for children and parents to do together to “Get Ready for School.”
Experience some revolutionary history
America250 - Battles of the Republic: The War of 1812 is part of a series of dinner-lectures given by Dr. Matt Goldberg. On April 10 from 6 – 8 p.m. you’ll learn about one of the major conflicts of the young United States. Cost is $35 per person and includes dinner.
The Oldham County History Center kicks off its first Public Archaeology Dig of the season on April 13 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Duncan homestead site in Oldham County. Cost is $15 per person. Registration required.
The America250 Native American History events are part of the History Center’s Brown Paper Bag Lunch series. Bring your lunch and listen as a guest speaker Reta Underwood presents America250 - The Voice of the Ojibway: The Mishomis Book on April 19 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Underwood is a senior elder of the Turtle Mountain Band of the Chippewa. Cost is $15 per person.
Join the Oldham County History Center for River History Cruise: Turtle Island Native American Culture, Past & Present on April 24 from 5 – 8 p.m. Cruise takes place on the Captains Quarter’s yacht Princess and will be given by Reta Underwood. Bring your plants, swap for something new, and grow your garden with fresh finds at the Plant Swap & Market on April 12 from noon – 4 p.m. This will be a day to trade outdoor plants, vegetables and flowers while browsing the local vendor market for unique garden finds. This is a free event.
Be sure to take in Tails & Ales at 3rd Turn Oldham Gardens on April 26 from 5 – 9 p.m. This free fun-filled, family-friendly event supports Adopt Me! Bluegrass Pet Rescue. Hosted by the Jake Luxemburger Foundation, this event is all about great beer, adorable dogs and community fun. Meet adoptable dogs, enjoy local vendors, fun activities, live music and lots of puppy snuggles. Find your new furry best friend at 3rd Turn.

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a trivia champion? Visit 3rd Turn in Crestwood every Thursday night in April from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. for Trivia Night at Oldham Gardens. Wednesdays at Game On! Sports Bar & Grill are where it’s happening. Take in a game of Family Feud on April 2 from 7 – 9 p.m. It’s free to play so grab your crew, test your trivia skills and see if you’ve got what it takes to win. The Locust Grove PTO in Oldham County is hosting a Roaring Color Run Race Swag for the community as a fundraiser on April 19 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Oldham County High School. This promises to be a fun and exciting 5K and 1-mile run full of energy and color.
Get your tickets for this year’s Blue Hydrangea Progressive Tea held April 19 from noon - 4 p.m. This annual charity event is hosted by La Grange Main Street Program and benefits Ovarian Awareness of Kentucky. Check in and silent auction begins at noon at CityPlace Pavilion 1. Ovarian Awareness of Kentucky (OAK) will be on hand to provide important information in the fight against ovarian cancer. Tickets are $15 per person.
