Massive shock to South Africa: Head coach resigned ahead of series against India
Rob Walter has stepped down from his position of South Africa's white-ball head coach because of some personal reasons. As of now, his successor is not known.

South Africa men’s cricket team’s white-ball head coach Rob Walter has resigned from his position. According to an official statement by Cricket South Africa (CSA), Rob submitted his resignation because of ‘personal reasons’. Who will be succeeding Walter is yet to be announced.
During Rob Walter’s time as head coach, South Arica reached he final of he 2024 T20 World Cup, where they lost the title deciding clash to India at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Under the guidance of Rob Walter, South Africa had even competed in the 2023 ODI World Cup, and managed to reach the semifinals in the tournament, where they lost to Australia at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
“Coaching the Proteas has been an incredible honour, and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together,” Walter said after giving his resignation.
“The players, support staff, and the South African cricketing community have been fantastic throughout this journey. While it’s time for me to step away, I have no doubt that the team will continue to grow and reach even greater heights,” Walter added.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) wishes to announce the resignation of the Proteas Men’s white-ball head coach, Rob Walter, effective 30 April 2025.
Walter has attributed his resignation to personal reasons, which CSA has accepted.

Looking forward, South Africa has a busy schedule in white-ball format. The team is to face Zimbabwe in a T20I series in July, followed by hosting Australia in a three-match T20I and ODI series in August. Their international assignments will not stop as they will tour to England in September for a three-match T20I and ODI series. In the final month of the year, the Proteas will face India in multi-format series, where they will play two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.
